Product Shuffle: Wood Veneers!

Happy Thursday to all! Hope you have had a great week so far and that you've been able to scrap at least a little bit. If not, I hope you've been inspired from all the great ideas that have been popping up lately on the Let's Capture Our Memories blog. I know I have!

Wood veneers. For a few years now, they've been very trendy in the scrapbooking world. We've seen them everywhere: on layouts, cards, project life projects, mixed media pieces, altered items - and the list goes on and on. In a matter of no time, from crop to crop, my own personal wood veneer stash grew and grew and grew some more. Being a texture-type of scrapper who loves to incorporate different feels to her layouts, I pretty much use some type of wood veneer shape or word on every project I make. However, I've been using them as they are, yes, as they come in the package. With this product shuffle feature, I thought to myself that that was kinda silly, that I should play a bit more with them. Why not alter the wood veneer in my project to make it work even more for me? And that's what I set out to do.

Do you see them? C'mon! Peek some more... closer... yes! The arrows you see come from my ever growing wood veneer stash (these arrows are from Studio Calico, one of the best wood veneer manufacturer out there for scrapbookers). Now, my initial plan was to colour them with some acrylic paint. However, I was adding my wood veneers at the end of my scrappy session and just wanted to get my layout done without worrying about drying time. So, one of my friends told me how she coloured them all the time with Sharpies and boom! - out came her pencil case FULL of Sharpies in every kind of colour you can think of!! OMG!!!  I had so much fun colouring them that I coloured those American Crafts alphas, too! ;) Thanks, Isabelle Elliott!!

Nothing earth shattering here, of course, but how fun is it to be able to make scrappy products work better for you with things we already have lying around the house such as Sharpies?!?

What else did I use on this layout? Mostly My Mind's Eye products from its Collectable - Notable collection with some Snowflake Core'dinations cardstock, stencilling using the Tim Holtz Bubble Layering Stencil, DMC floss using a Bazzill Basics stitching template, a Pink Paislee tab, an ACCO paper clip, and yes, of course, I have no idea who made those buttons!! Mea culpa - AGAIN! :) I also used this fabulous sketch by Susan Stringfellow:

So, what are you waiting for? Go grab those plain wood veneer shapes you have and get colourin', paintin', glossin', or anything else that'll make your heart pitter patter a beat quicker when you're doing your next scrappy project. Oh! And join us on Saturday for another great reveal with our eight wonderful layout and card designers. It's gonna be a good one - I promise!

Happy scrapping!!
