Image Inspiration Card Challenge!!

Anyone that knows me know how much I love shoes!!!  And I totally fell in love with these boots when I saw them this spring and just had to buy them!!  The picture of them below is what I want you to use as inspiration for your card this week!  You can use the colours, shape, any part of it that inspires you!!  Here is the image:
And yes, if your wondering these boots were made for walking!!  Here is a little song to go along with them!

Meet our Guest Design Team Member this week ...SUNGHEE

Hello there! My name is Sunghee. I’m a stay-at-home mom living near Washington DC with a husband, a five-year old son, and a two-year old daughter. I’m so grateful to have my own crafting room where I could be as messy as I want to be. Not that other part of the house is neat, but I am thankful to have a designated area where I can spread multiple crafting projects at once and not worry about cleaning up at the end of the day.  I love everything cute and crafty. Currently, I enjoy photography, scrapbooking (both traditional, and digital), and paper crafting. Thank you so much for having me as a guest designer this week! What an honor!

Here's her card...

Inspiration: Shoe itself. She printed the photo on the back of the cardstock, and cut it. She wanted to use the monotone color like the photo. One flower (forget me not) accent with a sentiment, “Miss Shoe”.

We're so glad Sunghee joined us this week!!!:)

Now lets see what the team did this week:
CORRINE
She was inspired by the regal colours and the textures on the flower.
RUSHA
She took her inspiration from the colours of the boot and incorporated them into her card and the large flower inspired her to cut out the scalloped circles.
ANITA
She was also inspired by the flower, making this one from a tutorial on the web.  She was waiting to use it on something special and it fits this card just perfectly!
DANI
She loved how sleek and modern the boot is, so she tried to mimic that in her card.  She used a cluster of mulberry paper flowers, a simple sentiment and rounded the corners of the card to act like the rounded toe of the boot.

SANDI
She drew her inspiration on color, the roundness in the toe and the flower.  She rounded only her top corner and then glimmermisted her prima flower to mimic the flower on the boot.  She used pattern paper that matched the flower on the boot also.

MELISSA
I drew my inspiration from the gorgeous colours and the textured flower by using this canvas prima flower as the focal point on my card, just as the flower is the focal point on the boots.
We hope you'll join us this week in creating a card using the boot image as your inspiration. Have your card posted here by Saturday August 28th at 8PM EST. Then winners will be posted here on Sunday the 29th. If you are the lucky winner - you will receive a Guest DT spot with the card team for the week of September 5th and a 15% off your next order in the LCOM store.

Fabric Card Challenge

This week we want to see you use fabric on your cards. Be creative and let us see what you come up with! Here are the Design Team's cards:

Anita made this beautiful flower by die cutting a piece of cotton through her die cutting machine. She then used tulle and Glimmer Mist to finish it off.

Jerusha made this super cute holiday card and she used an elastic fabric trim to tie her whole card together.

Sandi made this really fun birthday card and incorporated felt into the center of the flower and it is topped off with a polka dotted ribbon.
Corrine's card uses a big piece of fabric that acts as patterned paper. There is so much fun texture going on in this one card!

Melissa made a beautiful holiday card for this challenge and her floral focal point is made up of fabric.
Dani's card uses a larger piece of fabric that acts as the sentiment holder. A little glitter glue on the apples finishes off the card to add a little sparkle.

JJ made such a great card.  The beige is canvas fabric, which she stamped. The letters are fabric thickers. The flowers are made from Basic Grey fabric.
We hope you'll join us this week in creating a card using fabric.Get your card posted here by Saturday August 21st at 8PM EST. Then winners will be posted here on Sunday the 22nd. If you are the lucky winner - you will receive a Guest DT spot with the card team for the week of August 29th and a 15% off your next order in the LCOM store.

Die Cut Challenge Results

Sorry that we are just posting the results this week.  It's been one of those weeks. We were so excited to see that so many of you participated this week! It was so exciting!!!
Have to tell you there has been lots of buzz in the Private Card team forum about one specific card though!!!

The Captured Card of the Week is Sunghee!!!!

Can you believe that flower is made with all of these little sizzix die cuts? If you go to her blog she even shows you how to make it with a tutorial!!! Make sure you head on over and check it out and give her some love while you are at it!!!
Congrats Sunghee...you will receive a Guest DT spot with the card team for the week of August 22nd and a 15% off your next order in the LCOM store.

Since we had so many participants this week we wanted to capture another card that caught our eye this week.
And that goes to...Andrea

This card really does make me smile! Andrea obviously used die cuts in her card.  She used her cricut to cut out her flamingo.  I love the texture she added to her card too.  Make sure you head on over and give her some love!

Hope you are working on your cards this week and incorporating fabric into them! Can't wait to see what you do with that fabric!!!

Die Cuts Challenge

This week at LCOM, we are hosting another card challenge. The goal is to dust off your cricut, Cuttlebug, punches, whatever! Use them and show us some die cuts on your card!

We hope you join us because it's FUN to do something different, and die cuts are kind of an "old" style of paper crafting. Just look at what the Card Design Team has come up with!

But, first let me introduce you to our Guest Designer this week:

Photobucket

Hello, I’m Jane Hewitt, I’m a Primary school teacher and I live in Scotland with my husband and 5 delinquent cats. I love all kinds of crafts including scrapbooking, card making, altered art, drawing, painting, cross-stitch sewing, patchwork, feltmaking, cake decorating and  oh the list is endless! I also love to swim and play the saxophone (though not at the same time!). I have been card making for as long as I remember and even as a little girl my mum and I would make our own Christmas cards. I am a designer for A Trip Down Memory Lane in UK and teach classes at my crop here in Scotland.

Here is her fabulous card:

Photobucket

And just so you can see how many she used, a close up of her die cuts:

Photobucket

I am thrilled to be invited as a guest designer for this week! When I found out the card challenge for this week was die cuts I headed straight over to my mum’s to borrow her Cricut! I wanted to make a card for my Great Aunt who is in a care home and thought a bunch of flowers would be perfect to cheer up her room. I used all the flowers I could find from several different cartridges. This is not my usual style but I was pleased with the result. I look forward to seeing everyone else’s cards now!

Jane, thanks so much for playing along with us this week! Your card is absolutely amazing! We love your die cut bouquet!

And now.....*drumroll*....here are the CDT's work:

Anita used a star punch to make a bunch of white stars. Then she embossed two with silver, and one with black glitter, one more with glitter, and two with micro beads! They look awesome:

Photobucket

Jerusha used some holiday die cuts that she received from a friend, who made them on her cricut using the Paper Dolls cartridge. Jerusha added some stickles and then the card was born:

Photobucket

Corinne was inspired by Dani's flowers on her card from the Upcycling challenge and used her punch to make one too:

Photobucket

Mel used a die cut from the Queen Bee Pink Paislee line, and punched a butterfly from coordinating papers in the same line to create her card:

Photobucket

Sandi used her Give A Hoot cricut cartridge and broke out the Glimmer Mist for her card this week:

Photobucket

JJ made this gorgeous card using Tim Holtz dies (including the flower, how amazing is that?). She aslso used her Martha Stewart punches:

Photobucket

Emily used a Tim Holtz die key hole and a tag die to make her vintagey Christmas card.

Now it's your turn - let's see your die cut cards! Get your card posted here by Saturday August 14th at 8PM EST. Then winners will be posted here on Sunday the 15th. If you are the lucky winner - you will receive a Guest DT spot with the card team for the week of August 22nd and a 15% off your next order in the LCOM store.

Remember that you also get to post this on your blog!

Can't wait to see what you create!! Have a wonderful day!

August Scrapper of the Month!!!!

Please join me in congratulating our August Scrapper of the Month - EmilySue!!!!

We are so happy to have Emily as part of the LCOM family!! Emily has been around since the beginning of LCOM, and has come a long way in her scrapping style, and has made some great scrappy friends!! I must say, I love her Tim Holtz style!!!

I asked Emily to tell us a bit about herself, answer a few questions, and share with us a few of her fav l/os!!

A little bit about me...

My name is Emily Thompson, but I go as EmilySue on the boards. I have been scrapping in some form for quite a few years now, it got really intense in college when my boyfriend and I were in a long distance relationship and I began sending him love letters (cute right?) with decorated cards. When we became more serious and started a life together, I decided to begin putting together albums and layouts to document our growth as a couple. I hope that my layouts will one day be cherished by family members who will look through them and develop an appreciation for who I was before I became a Mother, Grandmother, Aunt ... I am not any of these things...YET.
I live in the Maritimes with my golden retriever King and my hubby Keith. I am described by most people as a simple person with unique likes and dislikes. It's true, there is no rhyme or reason to what I like, no genre, etc. I just like what I like, and stay away from what I don't like.
My days are spent in the field of early childhood education where I guide other educators and also get to play with some awesome kids!! How great is that!
Thanks for reading about me, I hope I didn't bore you!

My guilty pleasure is...watching trashy tv! I love cribs, Trailer Park Boys, Family Guy, Cops...the list goes on and on. I'm not sure what attracts me to them, but I can't get enough! Thank goodness for cable!

I couldn't imagine life without...My dog, King. Its hard to imagine what life was like before we got him, he brings so much joy to our lives. I can't remember what I used to spend my time doing before I had to get up and walk the dog, feed the dog, brush the dog, snuggle the dog, etc.

You would never guess it but...I have a terrible potty mouth. A lot of people are really surprised to hear the things that I say sometimes, apparently my sweet innocent first impression is misleading.

I would love to win a shopping spree to...LCOM!!! It's where I shop all the time anyways, so why not have a little spree!!

My favorite scrappy item in the LCOM store right now is...Anything Tim Holtz!!! I am drawn to anything to do with Tim - his book, his inks, his stamps, his embellishments, I love it all, and I especially love that I can harass Tanya for more of all my fav Tim things!

If I could be on any game or reality TV show it would be... Probably 'Wheel of Fortune' because I want to spin the wheel and yell "Big Money"!!!

If a genie granted me three wishes I would ask for... the genie to leave everything alone please. I'm more of a 'let the chips fall where they may' kind of girl so I won't ask the genie for anything, I'll keep working at this life of mine the best I can.

My least favorite chore is... emptying the sink after I wash the dishes. I'm not sure why, but I hate reaching in there and pulling the plug. I usually leave it, the house boy gets it eventually.

I have a scrappy crush on...You guessed it, Tim Holtz!! I think everything he makes is absolutely wonderful! His products are supreme, his talent is unbeatable, and his little smile is so dang cute!

Here are a few of Ems fav l/os!

Photo of the Week

Gisele
As they said in the forum, doesn't this just scream summer? Look at the sun shining, but the chairs are sitting in the shade.  I could sit and finish reading my book I started reading yesterday on the way home from Georgia. Gisele took this picture at her sister's cabin.  Gorgeous shot she captured!!!

If you would like a chance to receive Photo of the Week , join our forum and place your favorite pictures in the favorite pictures thread.  Tanya picks them every week and Photo of the Week is posted on the blog on Mondays.  Go capture some memories and post your favorite photos!

Embossing Card Challenge 8/2/10

This week's challenge is all about embossing, wet dry, different materials, the sky is the limit.  Be sure to check out the challenge at the Let's Capture our Memories Blog
Let's meet our Guest Designer this week...I am so excited to  have her on board here at LCOM!!!!

Hi, everyone! My name is Sherri Thompson, and I am so excited to be the Guest Designer for LCOM this week! I live in rural Maine with my husband and our two children. I am currently a full-time college student studying Elementary Education. Papercrafting is my creative outlet and I try to fit in a little crafty time each day.

I began papercrafting in 1997, after my son was born. At first, I was solely a scrapbooker, but then my sister-in-law introduced me to stamping and cardmaking and I was instantly hooked. Now I have the privilege of designing for several manufacturers and challenge blogs. I also write a monthly column for ScrapStreet magazine.

Thanks so much for taking the time to learn a little bit about me. I hope you enjoy the challenge this week-this was a fun one for me because I love embossing!

Sherri

Sherri decided to go with both kinds of embossing because she couldn't decide which to do! Don't you just love how she topped it off with those cute buttons! Love Sherri's style!!!

Here is what the rest of the DT did this week.
Corinne
Corinne's embossing is on her petals.  Isn't this a gorgeous card.  I love the colors that she used for her sample.

JJ

JJ used a plastic separator from a box of Ferrero Rocher. I embossed it with a diamond-plate pattern, and coloured it with alcohol inks to make it look like galvanized metal. This is so neat, it really looks stunning and so much like metal.

Rusha

Isn't Rusha's card so cute?  I want to jump right into that pool too.  She embossed the white strip behind the main image and chalked it with blue.

Melissa

The background piece was embossed with a Sizzix folder and then she inked over it.  Isn't it just stunning.  I would love to receive this card.

Emily

Emily dry embossed her blue cardstock.  Love the little icecream cone on her card.  Cute and pretty!

Dani

Dani did an embossed layering technique.  She first stamped a text script background, then stamped her image (over the text image)with versamark and embossing powder, then heat embossed it. Then she  went over it with 3 shades of Distress Inks to add the coloring. What a beautiful summery card!

Sandi
Sandi used both wet and dry embossing. Her black piece of cardstock has dry embossing that she did with her big shot and texture plates and she put her greeting on her card with versamark and black embossing powder. A simple thank you card that is very summery!

Anita

I used an acetate sheet to make my card and I embossed in using a Cuttlebug Embossing folder.  I then used my Copics to color the raised images.  I tried alcohol inks which tended to run and the markers worked the best.
I hope that you will have a chance to participate in our challenge.  Be sure to enter your card by Saturday 8/7/10 at 8PM EST for a chance to win a GDT spot for the week of August 15the and 15% off an order at LCOM store.  Can't wait to see what you create.
Hugs,
Anita
