Product Shuffle- packaging

I have been going through some older pictures while preparing a school project with my daughter.  My youngest is so calm, never wanting to bother anyone.  This picture I found was of her sleeping on the living room floor.  She had been on her blanket watching me and my oldest daughter playing a game and she just fell asleep there.  I had already scrapbooked that picture, but I wanted to do it again.  I still had my supplies from last week's product shuffle on my desk and I felt that it would be perfect for this layout.
This paper from My Mind's Eye Now and Then collection is just too pretty.  It was just asking to be fussy cut.

 So that's exactly what I did.  I fussy cut and layered the flowers and leaves.  I like how they pop off the page.

Even the packaging for this collection is pretty.  I incorporated the top part of a tag from the 3X4 cards on the side of my layout.  You can see the stripped scallop border hidden under the hearts border

To make the heart border I used the leftovers from the sticker sheet and glued it on coordinating pattern paper.  I then trimmed the paper and adhered it to my layout.  So basically, I'm using the negative of the stickers and making an accent piece.  Here is the sticker sheet I used, also from the Now and Then collection from My Mind's Eye

You see where the number stickers are?  I trimmed the sticker sheet so that I only had the number stickers.  I then removed the negative and glued it to pattern paper.  It made another accent piece under the picture.

To complete the layout I added Thickers by American Crafts, a button from My Mind's Eye and some Prima flowers and a Maya Road butterfly clip. 

I am very proud of how this layout turned out while using supplies that would normally have been thrown out.  I hope you like it too!

Product Shuffle - Die cuts and 3X4 cards

Do you sometimes buy a product that looks pretty on the rack but you struggle with how you would use it?  This was my feeling with die cut packs and 3X4 cards.  I have not jumped into the Project Life pool yet and other than using the die cuts as an accent piece or a card as a journaling tag, I was at a loss on how to use them.

So this was my state of mind when I opened up this pack of My Mind's Eye Mixed Bag.

I put on my thinking cap, spread out the goodies on my scrapbooking table and tried to figure out how to use them in a different way. So instead of accent pieces, I took those beautiful cards and the die cuts and I placed them front and center on greeting cards!  All I had to add was a few scraps of paper that was left over after the last 2 assignments, a few enamel shapes and some alphas and it was that easy!

The Now and Then collection was perfect for so many occasions.  I made an invitation.

 Here is a "Bon Voyage!" card.  You could use it for anyone leaving on a trip or even for college or university.

When I made this card I was thinking of a friend who had a baby girl.  I really love how shiny this card is.

This card is so fun!  I put a "Thank You" on this one, but it could easily be "Happy Birthday" too.

You have heard of having the memory of an elephant?  This card was the easiest to make.  To me the die cut belonged on this card!

Product Shuffle : Ribbon

Good morning!
As promised, I return this morning with a new twist on the same collection I used last week.  If you need a refresher just click here and see what I created last week with the Now and Then collection from My Mind's Eye.  The previous layout was girly and fun.  This week I went for the vintage feel.  This amazing collection is perfect for so many occasions.

For this week's product shuffle I decided to work with ribbon.  I love ribbon and I try to use some on most of my layouts.  I mostly use them for trim or I fold them in half and slide underneath a button or a flower.  I wanted to show you that you could use them in more ways.  I did want to incorporate ribbon in a subtle way and I was inspired by Aurélie's post on Monday about masking.  Why not use my ribbon as a mask?  I dug out my old meshy ribbon from the bottom of my ribbon drawer and my Tsukineko rich cocoa spray and I sprayed away.

I also used the ribbon in a more traditional way, tucked under a button and flower and as a trim under my picture.  The quote in the bottom of my page is accented by strips of ribbon.  With the help of glue dots, the ribbon is folded on itself to create fun ruffles. 

 

The finished layout is even better than what I had envisioned.  

In addition to all the My Mind's Eye goodness, I used Webster's Pages, Tim Holtz and Stamping Up ribbon, Kaisercraft flower, Close to my Heart cardstock and American Crafts thickers.
