FABulous framed

This vellum paper from the Dear Lizzy Neapolitan line had caught my eye when it was first released.

I had no idea what I was going to do with it, I just knew I liked it.  The sticker sheets that came with the the Simple Stories Fabulous line were also screaming to be used for something other that scrapping. 

Then it happened. I came across a sweet little white frame by Fancy Pants (on clearance, I might add) I knew exactly what I would be using all these items for. I combined a few bits and pieces and came up with an altered frame to hang in my daughter's room.  I began by adhering the vellum sheet to the back of the frame.  Everything else is stuck onto the front of the frame giving it some dimension. 

The sun was created by sticking down strips of double sided tape and then layering strips of the trim down beginning at the bottom and working my way up, layering it as I went.

The kite is hand cut, stitched together, by machine, and coated with glossy accents adding some sheen and pop.  The twine is stuck down by painstakingly applying teeny tiny dots of Glossy Accents one dab at a time and holding the twine in place with tweezers for a minute or two.  Once the twine tried I went back over the same spots and adding a little more Glossy Accents, and topping with bits of tulle that I first tied into tiny little bows.

This was my first time tackling a project like this.  I really enjoy looking at altered work created by others, being somewhat of a perfectionist, I'm afraid to ever give anything a go myself.  I always have a fear of wrecking it, wasting product, and not seeing my idea come to life.  This is what I created.

This turned out pretty well (if I do say so myself).  Although the kite flying weather has not yet arrived on the prairies, catching a glimpse of this little project makes me smile in anticipation of warmer days, sunny skies, and family outings to the park.

More Dear Lizzy love!

Well, the weather in Eastern Ontario has drastically changed since last week! Unfortunately, we don't have any more warm temperatures left that help us get into the groove of Spring. However, the collection I'm about to show you certainly fits the bill when it comes to the colors of Spring!

I'm back with my last project for March, using American Craft's Dear Lizzy collection. This collection has to be one of my faves from CHA. I love so many of the embellishments and pretty papers.

How can you not be swooned by all the lovely embellishments in this line? Two of my favourites are the chipboard and buttons. The best part is these embellishments match with so many other lines from different companies as well. I also can't get enough of that polaroid-type paper.

More Dear Lizzy!

I don't know what the weather is like where you are, but here in Eastern Ontario, we've been blessed with unseasonably warm weather! Flips flops, bbq'ing, bike riding....it's awesome! The gorgeous weather inspired me to break into the Dear Lizzy Neopolitain collection again to create a layout about my daughter.

I seriously love every piece of paper in this line and wanted to use as many as possible on my layout. One way to do this is to create these accordian-type flowers for your layout like I did. Here is a close-up of them:

Simply cut a one inch strip from a 12 x 12 piece of paper. Fold the paper and make creases back and forth (it's like making those little paper fans you used to do as a child). Glue the two ends together once folded and press onto a piece of trimmed cardstock (I cut a circle from cardstock scraps to use this as the base to glue the flower to). Then embellish the centre as you please. Here, I used a circle punch and American Crafts pearl brads. I also added some ink to give the flowers some definition.

And here is a couple more close-ups. The first shows the Dear Lizzy chipboard. In the second, I cut the polaroid out of this Dreamy Days paper and added a metal clip from the Amy Tangerine line.

Spring is in the Air with Dear Lizzy!

Hi Everyone! There has been so many wonderful and new latest and greatest products added to the LCOM store lately. I can't keep up with all the goodness. :)

One of my favourite new releases has to be the Dear Lizzy Neopolitain collection by American Crafts. It is loaded with co-ordinating papers, Thickers in a fab new font, tags, printed chipboard, brads, stickers....it's endless. There is even a fun new date stamp with some unique words on it. I am so excited to be working with this collection for March!

My first project has many of the new goodies on it:

One of my very favourite things in the entire line is the sheet of paper called "Dream Days" which looks like a bunch of litle polaroid snapshots. The possiblities with this piece of paper are endless! For this layout, I cut it down to one square that suited my layout well and used it:
