Product shuffle : Washi tape take 2

Good morning!

It's me, Jocelyne, trying to show you ways to use your scrapbooking stash in unconventional ways.  Today's product is washi tape. That's right!  Another product shuffle featuring washi tape!  If you missed the first one, check it out here.

The washi tape I used for this project is the green stared tape that comes from this very cute My Mind's Eye My Girl decorative tape set.

Have you ever seen an idea for a scrapbook product in a magazine and just simply had to try it right away!  The inspiration for this week's product shuffle came to me in the new CTMH idea book.  All you need is washi tape and twine.  I've got them both! So away I go! Will you came with me?

Do you see it?  I made leaves using washi tape and twine!  Simply sandwich the twine between strips of washi tape placed back to back.  Then cut it to make the shape of a leaf!  Oh so easy!  If you want a more feathery look, simply cut more notches on the side of the leaves and there you have it!

I also placed a piece of washi tape on paper, took out my hole punch and made matching confetti.

Since I like to make things in three's.  I placed strips of washi below and on top of my picture to frame it better.

Here is my completed layout inspired by LCOM sketch 82 that was revealed last Saturday.  Along with the washi tape, I used Echo Park Capture Life and Bo Bunny Pincushion paper, some Prima, Kaiserkraft and Maya road flowers, Tattered Angel glimmer glaze, Webster's Pages ribbon, American Crafts alpha stickers, and a Prima butterfly.

I hope you like it and you give this technique a try.  Don't forget to tune in on Saturday for yet another sketch reveal!  See you soon!

Have an amazing day!

Product Shuffle : Washi Tape

Ok, I've got to be honest here.  I never got the whole buzz about Washi tape.  I had a few rolls, I used them in a few layout as a trim or on a corner of a picture here an there, but I never understood why some of my friends just had to have bags full of them.
I was nervous when given this assignment, I had my package of Washi tape on the corner of my scrapbooking table just staring at me, taunting me.  So here I go, try to use the Washi tape in a whole new way.
The first technique I used was masking.  Since Washi tape is repositionable, it was easy to use as a mask.  I simply tore off different lengths and placed several strips on my cardstock.  I them spread a generous amount of CTMH  Create-a-shade pearl paint with a brush over the tape and let dry.  Once dried I just peeled the tape off, revealing stripes on my cardstock

I then took chipboard shapes and covered them in Washi tape.  I had a Maya Road polaroid frame and I used the square from inside the frame and covered 3 of them in different Washi tape patterns.  I also used a CTMH chipboard tag.
And just for good measure, I also used the Washi tape in the traditional way I usually use them : a small strip on the corner of my pictures like this :
And here is the finished layout
It was so much fun!  I was amazed at how versatile Washi tape can be.  The Washi tape I used is the gorgeous My Mind's Eye's  My Girl decorative tape.  I then used leftovers I had from different collections such as Pink Paislee's Secret Crush paper, Bo Bunny's Zip-A-Dee-Doodle stickers, Cosmo Cricket's Sweet Disposition paper, stickers and chipboard alphabet  (Check out the banner:  I simply adore them!  double sided so you can either use the plain side of the side with a letter!).  To complete the layout I then added Prima and Maya Road flowers and a butterfly, CTMH hemp, and the very cute Fancy Pants' Be Loved buttons.
I hope you liked my take on Washi tape use.  If you have other ways to use it, please comment below and let us know how you use it.

Oldies and Goodies

Hi, Erin here today to talk a little more about using old products and new products. Last week we looked mainly at combining papers and embellishments in a mix match fashion. This week, I want to show you how to use up some older stuff, and make it new using fun new products.

I chose to dig through my rarely used chipboard, and pull out some pieces from Fancy Pants Designs. You may even have something similar in your collection.

Chipboard is one of those staple products that can always be altered to look updated and modern. Even printed pieces of chipboard can be given a new look by either peeling off the printed layer, or by recovering the print with paper or paint. In this case, I'm giving the surface of the raw chipboard new life with one of my favorite new trends; washi tape.

Any colour combo goes, you could even repeat the same pattern over and over again.  Just line each strip up side by side, and go right to the edge. You can trim off any tape that goes over.

The next step is to take your craft knife and cut out any pieces you wish to use. I chose to remove the small inner frame and shaped tags, but to leave the smaller shapes in the bottom, so it created a polaroid type frame. Cutting is very easy, as the tape is thin, and you can see the indent of the lines where you should cut.

I dug through my pile of old Christmas papers to find a paper that worked with the patterns of washi tape I used. Wouldn't you know I had a red and white polka dot that matched exactly! ( October Afternoon).
Add to that a smattering of old and new embellishments, and you've got a page that can comfortably fit in your album with this year's pages.

New embellishments used:
Wooden Shapes : Studio Calico ( covered with Tim Holtz Platinum Distress Stain)
Alterable Chipboard Stars: Pink Paislee (Coloured with Distress Stains)
Snowflake Die Cuts: Maya Road
